This is the Alien Queen from the motion picture Aliens, which I painted in watercolor. Pausing my Aliens Director's Cut Laserdisc as reference, I lightly penciled in key areas of the composition on 15" x 11" watercolor paper. Before painting I brushed art masking fluid on the areas I wanted white (removing later with an eraser). I painted several passes to get the deeper colors and create the detail. The two major difficulties were: getting deep dark color out of a drably colored medium, and not damaging my TV set.
